Winwin Avfall is a circular innovation initiative focused on transforming locally available organic oil residues into high-quality biodiesel (RME). The project is based in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, and supported by a collaborative network of industry, academia, and public partners.
The first phase of the project focuses on mapping available feedstocks such as used cooking oil, grease trap residues, animal fats, and tall oil from pulp and paper industries. A cross-sectoral working group will be established, coordinated by Innovationsbolag AB, which will include:
In the next stage, a pilot-scale biodiesel plant will be established to process multiple feedstocks and validate the technical and commercial model. The goal is to start with 400 ton /year pilot.
In the final phase, the project transitions from pilot validation to full-scale implementation. A commercial biodiesel facility with a processing capacity of 40,000–50,000 tons per year will be established based on insights from the pilot plant. This phase includes industrial scaling, securing long-term feedstock agreements, certifying the production according to EN 14214 standards, and preparing for market launch. Strategic partnerships will be solidified, and environmental impact will be continuously monitored to ensure regulatory compliance and maximize climate benefit
